Sounds like a great Thanksgiving menu! Hope all the Benrud's and their family have a great TG in Manchester.

Patricia and I are going over to Brother Jeff and Dina's in South Minneapolis (41st & Chicago) and we are suppose to bring BREAD and a CHOCOLATE PIE. Any ideas on a great freshly baked chcoloate pie?

I will be up early cooking Pan du Quesu for our bread contribution, although, not oo early...

Ann: I stopped by Cafe Latte on Grand in St. Paul last Saturday to look at Thanksgiving pies. WOW! One thing I can say about Cafe Latte is, I think, they have the best scones and "scone ritual" in the Twin Cities. I wasn't too impressed with their "chocolate pie" offerings and they have a double chocolate tart but they were not offering it on the Thanksgiving inventory.

In England and Scotland, eating scones is something of a ceremony, not just something you take away in a bag and break crumbs from and stuff them in your mouth as you slam your coffee from a travel mug and try to negotiate heavy traffic on 35W south.

Cafe Latte serves the scone, a plate of fruit with crème fraîche, a berry jam, and yogurt with lime zest, honey and lime juice. Yummy! Then, you accompany it with a breakfast tea or a nice cappuccino and sit down to enjoy it. Of course, in Scotland you are more likely to add kippers or another smoked fish for added protein and a little more salty/savory but... this is pretty close.

OK, I've made my decision:

Baker's Wife
4200 28th Ave S, (42nd St & 28th Ave)

The former pastry chef of the Plaza Hotel in New York City has opened this unpretentious neighborhood bakery specializing in pastries, cinnamon rolls, caramel cakes, chocolate snowballs, bars and muffins, deserts and pies. For Thanksgiving she is making pumpkin ($7.99), Cherry ($9.99), and Pecan and French Chocolate Silk ($11.99).
